The Big GP Toolkit

Supporting GP Trainees and early career GPs to implement high impact actions in their area

What is The Big GP Toolkit?

The Big GP Consultation has revealed many brilliant ideas that can be taken forward at a very local level – at practice level, at PCN level, and through working with local organisations.

GP Trainees and early career GPs are extremely well placed to put some of these ideas into practice. This is an opportunity for them to make positive change, to develop leadership skills, and to meet some of the leadership requirements of their training or appraisal curriculum.

The Big GP Consultation Team have therefore created The Big GP Toolkit. This toolkit:

Outlines the ideas…

…generated during The Big GP Consultation that will have the greatest impact when implemented.

Lays out the steps…

…a GP trainee or early career GP can take to implement these ideas in their area.

Provides supporting resources…

…to make this implementation process as smooth as possible.

How do I use the toolkit?

Below, we outline a number of participant-generated ideas for improvement, that you can readily implement in your area. To use this toolkit:

1. Take a look through the high impact actions we lay out below
2. Choose the action that is of most interest to you
3. Adapt the resources provided to start implementing the idea in your area

The Big GP Consultation Team are very happy to support you with your plans. Please do feel free to email us with a summary of your plans, and how we may be able to help – we’ll be back in touch with you as soon as possible.

Impacting More Broadly

The above ideas are ones that can be practically and readily implemented locally. But the impact of The Big GP Consultation does not stop there…

Since the conclusion of the final session in May 2022, The Big GP Consultation Team have been in conversation with a number of national organisations – those with the power to implement the actions outlined in our Final Report. This work has been very well received by these organisations; they are keen to collaborate and take practical steps towards the positive vision we have outlined.
Examples of organisations we are in contact with can be found below.

If you represent an organisation who would like to discuss our findings further, we would love to hear from you – please do get in touch via email.
